- Anti-thyroid medicines such as Carbimazole for Hyperthyroidism, and referral for Radioactive Iodine or surgery when appropriate.
- Nodule evaluation and follow-up, with surgical referral if a nodule is suspicious.
- Calcium and Vitamin D management for parathyroid conditions, with surgical referral for Hyperparathyroidism when needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
How should I take my thyroid tablet?
Levothyroxine is usually taken on an empty stomach with water, 30–60 minutes before breakfast, and kept apart from Calcium or Iron tablets by at least four hours.
Is thyroid treatment lifelong?
Hypothyroidism due to Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis usually needs lifelong Levothyroxine. Some thyroid problems, such as Postpartum Thyroiditis, can be temporary.
Can I get pregnant if I have a thyroid problem?
Yes. With good thyroid control, most women have healthy pregnancies. Thyroid doses often need to increase early in pregnancy, so check your TSH as soon as you know you are pregnant.
